True, but doesn't mean they can't secure their version of it properly!
And I'm sure it won't stop them claiming that they did!
This news story isn't about hackers but instead it's Phishers sending out emails. There's no hacking involved if someone gives you all their details!

iOS is based on NeXTStep, a variant of Unix, it should be secure as the operating system was more or less built from the ground up. Lax security comes from people not setting secure enough passwords. Passwords should look like tH1$ and not th1s.
The problem with easy and convenient to use Apps, is they offer an easier gateway into applications for anybody with know how. Setting a regular expression rule to force users to set more complex passwords should be a big preventative measure.
This goes for any OS I reckon.
