O2 to O2 in the USA?

Anonymous
Not applicable

My son and I both have mobiles on O2pay-as-you-go.

He is going on a trip to the USA and I want to be able to contact him on his mobile.

Despite assurances from customer services that I can text or call him as normal,

on his last visit nothing got through.

Can some kind soul please tell me what we are doing wrong?

Does his mobile need to be set up in a particular way over there?

Or do I need some prefix to his number, perhaps?

Thanks,

John

Having now spoken to CS, it seems the likely answer was that he needed to switch networks - in this case in New York to T-mobile who have an agreement with O2. It seems many do not.
The matter of international call provisioning only applies to SIM cards more than about 8 years old. Both of ours are OK.
Seems to be problem solved.
Thanks to all.

You should be able to call as normal provided that both accounts have international calls provisioned. Call CS and make sure both numbers are provisioned correctly.

If you and your son can install the Skype app on your phones you would be able to keep in contact if he is in an area where he can get free WiFi and it would cost you both nothing.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

Unfortunately they are both simple mobiles. Nice thought though!

Ah! No mention was made of international call provisioning. I will get onto CS and try to resolve that.
Is that a chargeable service?
Any idea how much texts cost each way?
Thanks,
John

Glad to hear it slight_smile

Is he only going to NY or are there any other states? If so, I'd be happy to tell you what the agreements are for the other states tomorrow?

But either way, a manual network selection should bring them up anyway.
