Samsung Galaxy S6 - different camera sensors

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have been reading on xda forums that the new S6 has been shipped with 2 different camera sensors, a Sony one and a Samsung one. It seems that the Sony sensor one is a lot better than the samsung sensor. It is just luck which one you get. To test which firware and sensor you have to dial this on your dialer *#34971539#  and then click ISP VER CHECK. Where it says rear camera it will either say SONY  (sony sensor) or SLSI (samsung)

Personally I'm not very happy with this as I have the samsung sensor and I have noticed my new s6 isnt very good at all in low light.

Yeah, shouldn't make any difference in the quality.

It's just pot luck.
Samsung build in batches of what's available and both sensors are interchangeable.
It won't be the sensor giving poor photos though as both are very capable of producing excellent pictures.

So are both sensors just as good as each other?

Interesting code to try - while unrelated to the OP I did it on my A3 and it turns out it's a sony sensor with a samsung front facing sensor, something I didn't know.

Sammobile has taken up the charge and is seeking more info from Samsung.
There are some comparison shots here which, I imagine many, would be hard pressed to choose a preference from?

If anything the Sammy sensor appears better in low light and colour saturation also appears greater in general... You decide !
