moving sim to different phone

I have taken the sim from my phone as it is damaged and inserted it into an existing phone. How do I transfer the phone number and connect to my existing sim only contract

That's all you need to do.

If your other phone is on O2 or unlocked it will just work.

If the phone is locked, you will need to contact the network that locked it to get it unlocked.
