I am off to the US in a couple of months, whilst there I will be doing a bit of driving around using Maps on my Mobile phone, is there a bolt on so I can use my data to do this?
Thanks

It depends on your tariff, although all data is capped at 2mbps.
All covered in these guides although a local sim may be the best option for data.

@JonnieBass You don't need data to use Google Maps:

How about when using as a sat nav?

@JonnieBass That's exactly what those links explain. You don't need data to use Sat Nav if you've downloaded the area you're driving in on your phone. If you use a WiFi connection to download the maps it costs nothing.

All of which works fine if you have all the maps for all areas of travel downloaded and of course you won't get live traffic updates and be able to reroute around traffic jams, accidents etc.

This has come up a few times, so a couple of months back I did an experiment.
My maps are downloaded for a large area I switched the phone to 2G for a journey and got traffic updates.
I guess they don't need super fast speed
Anyone else want to give it a try and report

For sure some level of data is needed though.
You can't get updates from just downloaded maps alone.
