Transferring a number to O2 - does the phone have to be in the UK?

I have just joined O2 and want to transfer my number from my old network to O2. I have a PAC code from my old network. I have heard somewhere that my phone has to be in the UK on the day of the transfer. Is this correct? as I will be out of the country for next few working days. Thanks

The transfer will take place on the O2 system but your O2 sim won't register the change until you connect to an O2-UK signal.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Thank you @MI5 for the quick reply. Does that mean my phone will still work(on roaming) on the temporary O2 number that was supplied with O2 sim until I reconnect to O2-UK network?

I've never been in that situation myself to confirm, but in theory, yes.
