Sim replacement

Hi, I have an intermittent problem with my signal. Suddenly on a call, the bars will just drop off and the call ends. This is while stationary. Phoned customer service today, they ordered me a new SIM. the girl promised my old one would keep working until the new one arrived. Low and behold the network bars show an X and I have no service. Is this normal?

It seems to be that the old sim is disconnected until the new one arrives is the new modus operandi, which is garbage. 

if you need a sim asap, the you will need to visit a shop with ID and they can give you a new sim
