My IPhone 12 mini will not use 3g

Please help.

My IPhone 12 mini will not use 3G, and I am missing calls because I cannot get a 4g signal.  3G is not listed under Mobile data options/Voice and Data.

The phone shows “3G” signal, but does not work unless I can use WiFi.

Any suggestions before I put it in the bin and buy an older phone?
