Something odd just occurred

18:28 O2 text advising OTP never asked for on its way and to be wary of scams

18:28 unanswered call from ‪01427 370914‬

18:29 O2 OTP text arrives

Very much doubt this is coincidental!

Blocked number and reported as scam

Why don't O2 send texts asking if requested an OTP before sending it? They're presuming request is genuine.

Report the number to 7726 or via your phones block and report settings.

That is what it says in the first text, if you didn't request it to contact o2, and not give out the code to anyone...  But as 99.9999999999999% of people who get an OTP request it, it would be pointless.

And to be brutally honest OTP's are insecure and its about time o2 forced everyone to use the likes of Google Authenticator or a Yubi Key to login..

- Xperia 1V - o2 and Spusu
- Pixel 8 Pro - o2 and Vodafone UK

Scammers use your email address to login to your MyO2 and then hit the forgotten password link, which in turn generates the OTP.

That's why they want it so they can get in, change your detail

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)
