Calls from people saying they have missed calls from me but I haven't called them (and vice versa!)

Hi 

I have had missed call notifications from numbers I don't know, but when I phone them back they say they have not called me.  Today I received a call from someone who said they had a missed call from me, but I hadn't called them.  This has been happening a fair bit recently - has anyone else had this and can it be stopped?

They are popular number spoofing scams.

Thanks.  I have reported it to Action Fraud.  I've received a few today which is becoming a nuisance.

It has been happening almost every day for the past few weeks.  A different mobile number each time calls me, usually I don't answer but I have done a few times.  In each case, the person (a different voice each time) on the other end says that they are returning a call made to them from my number.  Needless to say I have not called them and tell them so.  They usually apologise and hang up.

Had a couple last week. Again, spoofed number. 

Only problem is the first five digits of my number is popular with spammers so my number comes up as suspect on some lookup websites
