does the £3 bolt on work out more economical than the $4.99 one.

@mandy23The International Bolt on is for use in the UK to make calls abroad. It won't be any help to you in the US. You need O2 Travel for £4.99 per day. O2 TRAVEL If you've got a Pay Monthly sim, text O2TRAVELto 23336

Just a word of warning. Data is heavily throttled in the UK. You would be better buying a local sim in the US. Or use Wifi whenever you can.
