extra data for holiday abroad

Hi my monthly bill is under £8.00. Free calls, Free messages 500 data.  Im going to Spain with the family,  Ive realised that I will use much more data on the ''phablet '' without my laptop in tow. Wi fi entertainment or ebook whilst travelling .   

What steps should I take and where do i find the means to do this as a one off? How much ?

Will purchased data be added to present data and roll over . The extra data might be needed whilst travelling, Can i buy it now a few days before leaving

Yes it will be added and roll over for the next billing period only.

Effectively you get it to use this month and the next only so time your purchase carefully to suit your travel dates.

Existing data runs out  shortly from now, travel begins b4 that. The existing data might be used (up) in transit. Will I lose it if if the data bundle is bought now   -  that better explains the dilemma

No, it's added to what you have then starts when your base data is used up.
