battery charging very slowly what do i need to do to rectify this problem

So little info to go on but try different chargers / cables etc.

Check if the charge port is free from debris - carefully clean it.

Talk to phone manufacturer as some can run remote diagnostic checks.

What 'phone have you got and how old is it ? 

Many more modern 'phones have battery information tucked away in the Settings. 

If you 'phone has been used heavily but is still otherwise in good working order, a replacement battery might be the answer.
