Hi. I keep receiving a voicemail telling me to change my voicemail PIN. Is this legitimate? Should I do it or not?

Thanks.

@ajc72

You need a pin to access your voicemail remotely.

Guide here Guide: All you need to know about O2 Voicemail 901

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

@ajc72

Only O2 can answer that question so you probably need to call Customer Services on 202. We are customers on this forum, just like you, and cannot check accounts.

I do think that your caution around this is laudable and I would only make the change if O2 expressly confirm that the request is from them and is legitimate.

It's legitimate

The default pin is 8705 which id well publicised and is how all the phone tapping was allowed to happen by the likes of Piers Morgan and his cronies

Each network has a default pin too

The first time you access your voicemails you are prompted now to set up a personal pin for your own privacy and security

Surprising the people who don't set a PIN.

When Virgin went Belgian with their SIM cards many people could no longer access Viocemail when roaming without a PIN.

Constant complaints on the Community from people who had never set a PIN

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

No different here either.

A pin is required for remote access which includes being abroad as covered in the guide.

@MI5 This was in areas where they had previously not had to enter a PIN when Virgin ran on EE. That's how they got caught out after the SIM swap

Ok, but never been any different on O2.

A pin has always been required.
