Upgrading before end of contract

I'm 11 months in to my 18 month contract and have tried to drop my tariff a couple of times, my minimum spend to O2 a month is £52! It's generally around £65+.

I went through the upgrade online process and seem to be able to upgrade but does this mean I take on a new contract? the phone is 'free' and the tariff is lower.

I don't want to end up paying for two side by side.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

I doubt you'll be able to upgrade.

You can only upgrade so early if it to the Iphone and then you have to pay off your line rental.

I pressed submit, will probably be an additional line, so will give o2 a phone tomorrow. There were no issues, I've tried to cut my tariff to a slightly lower one for months but they keep putting me off.

What's wrong with bog standard 12 month contracts?!

People want high end phones and cheap line rental, guess its just the price we pay for it.

your spend puts you in the gold category of o2's priority rankings

you can upgrade for free on month 15 ( three months early) as things stand now

drop below £50 and its 1 month early upgrade

drop below £35 and its full term contract

o2 allow you to downgrade your current tarif after 9 months one step at a time
