Upgrade via O2 a rip off?!

Anonymous
Not applicable

So i'm due an upgrade now and decided i like the look of the S3.

Via Tesco (on O2 network) the phone is free @ £22pm.

Not wanting to change number etc, figured i'd upgrade online and get the same deal.

Well, they do the exact same tarriff, but want to charge me £280 upfront for the phone?!

After several years with O2, you'd kind of think they'd give existing customers the best deal surely?!

Is this common place with O2 where it's best to go elsewhere for a good deal?

Upgrade at Tesco, it's all the same as far as your account is concerned. There are no deals for existing customers - everyone gets the same direct from O2. Tesco discount which is why its cheaper, probably offset against food sales profits (which O2 can't do cause they don't sell food ;))
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

O2 don't offer existing customer loyalty incentives any more. New customers and old are treated the same. Tesco can afford more subsidy for their phones. You have a choice to get your phone and tariff from anywhere you choose.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

It would depend on what phone you want to upgrade to.
