Upgrade contract to sim-only and change phone

My O2 contract ends this month and I would like to get a new phone with dedicated dual sim and micro sd slots (that might be a different topic). I can see upgrade to sim only option in my upgrade page. Questions:

  • does this mean choosing the sim-only upgrade also ends the contract?
  • does this retain the mobile number (I think so)

I can slot both my current sims to a new phone (Samsung A70 to Samsung, probably an M), along with the micro sd card:

  • is this all, or should I inform O2 about change of device? New device is not likely 5G and not iphone.

Thank you!

David

@Davidwwww

Yes, a sim only upgrade replaces your current airtime contract and retains your number.

There is no need to inform O2 of a change of phone and no new sim will be required as you won't be using 5G.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

@Davidwwww

* If you upgrade to sim only, it ends your current contract (although you may still have a small amount to pay which will show on your first bill for new contract)

*Yes you keep your same number.

There is no need to tell O2 about your new device if you are  buying it elsewhere. You can change the phone name in My O2 in the section  My Device.

O2 are only interested in your sim only payment.

Hope that helps and welcome to the forum.
