Unlocking my iPhone 6

Anonymous
Not applicable

hi there

i have just sold my iPhone 6 on eBay and the owner wants to unlock it from o2. They have emailed me the following message. Can someone have a look at it and tell me is it legitimate and not a scam please? Just want to make sure!  Thank you slight_smile

As far as I know the phone is locked to O2. I’m on O2 too, so that’s completely fine. But it’s very convenient if I can use the phone outside the UK, for example when I go back to my home country on holiday. I asked O2 and was told that the easiest way to do it is to ask the original owner.

The process is quite simple and easy. All you need to do is just fill in the following online form. It’ll cost you absolutely nothing. Just make sure you enter the mobile number that you bought the phone with, to avoid being charged (in case O2 charges you I’ll pay for it).
https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form

So I’d really appreciate if you can do this. But still, if you think it’s just too much I understand it.
Thanks in advance and have a nice we

Welcome @Anonymousslight_smile

Yes it's easy to get the phone unlocked if you fill in the form and make sure you enter the IMEI number of the phone you sold. It's free if you are on monthly contract. More information here :

If the new owner is on O2 as they say they are, they can use the phone on o2 and submit the request themselves too.
There is no need for you to do it for them.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)
