Signal is gone: O2 is not even on list of my network carriers anymore

Anonymous

I'm devastated, I have lost the signal on Friday afternoon and since then it hasn't come back. I use iphone4 which works fine, but now I can only use it on wifi. Can't call/text/use mobile data.
I have tried everything: soft reset, hard reset, airplane mode on/off, 3G off, removing SIM card. I even upgraded to ios7 even though its not recommended for my old model!
O2 doesn't even show up on the list of carriers now, only Vodafone (but I can't connect with it). I didn't damage my phone. According to their live status checker, network in my area works fine and there's no planned maintenance.
Usually I get 3 bars at home, now there's just no service.
I really wanted to get an iPhone 5s now from O2, but if O2 stopped providing service in my area then what's the point? I can't call anyone from O2 cause my phone doesn't work (and I don't have the landline). I chatted with online advisors from O2, but they were bloody useless. I live in shetland, and they told me to go to the O2 store. Yeah, the nearest one is in Aberdeen:(
How can I find out if O2 just decided to cut us off and won't provide any service?

Download the my network o2 app and turn your wifi off once you have the app open use the report back option to create a fault report then reenable wifi to send the report to o2.

That way they get signal info etc from your phone then they may investigate the issue.

Hi,

I doubt service has been stopped.

Call o2 to check out your account : From a landline 0844 809 0202 5p / min or Live Chat http://www.o2.co.uk/mobile/contactus

You could ask for a replacement sim to be posted to you and carry out the swap just incase yours has gone faulty http://swapmysim.o2.co.uk/

Can you try the sim in another phone ?

Bless you sweetheart, but when I put my exact postcode or name of the place I live in, I get "Our network is currently working fine", so I don't why there's a difference. You would think that searching the area by postcode should provide me with more accurate info?
Like I said, I can't phone anyone now, as I don't have the landline. Will have to do it tomorrow. Online support checked and refreshed my account so I know it's not my fault (unpaid bills and such).

Hi,

The postcode does give a more specific reading.

Do you have a spare phone to try your sim in or a neighbour on the o2 network you can ask if they are getting signal or not.

Or if you can try your sim in their phone.

It's quite possible that at your exact postcode the mast is fine, however, as another one is suffering problems it's most likely that yours is overloaded.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:

Please check your sim tray has no dust/lint inside it.

I know you say you have reset the iphone but it may be worth trying the ;

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings again.

Just to add iOS7 is compatable with the iPhone 4. {Not all specs are supported that all}

I really wanted to check my SIM card on other phones but I had only old Nokia and Samsung so my micro chip sim can't fit there. I'm actually bed bound at the mo and can't leave the house, so can't get any help from friends/neighbours. According to Facebook one person from my area had problems yesterday, but others are saying O2 is working fine for them.
I did network reset but it didn't help either:(
Sorry, I said that ios7 is not recommended, but you're right, it is compatible with iPhone 4, just slows it down a tiny wee bit.

I'm sorry to read of your current situation.

If your a pay monthly customer then maybe o2's TuGo service may be of help.

http://www.o2.co.uk/tugo/want-it

Or whatsapp or viber as long as the other person has these downloaded too.

Maybe if you ask Live Chat or e mail O2 they could arrange for a sim card adapter to be sent out to you. This will adjust the size of your sim card to fit in your other phones. Just as a back up.

I've heard that some iphone 4 models have been slowed down a tad, but on the flip side others have reported no issues.

I hope all sorts out for you asap.

I dont know your situation but being so isolated surly some form of landline can be looked at for you.

Take care of yourself.

Don't use live chat, I know from experience that they are worse than useless for anything other than low level (VERY low level) account queries.
