I paid my bill this morning through the app but just got a text and email stating that they will still take the payment on the due date.
is this an automated text or should I contact o2?

Your DD will still be taken if less than 7 days away as it's too close for the system to register the payment.
Over payments will be a credit and used for your bill next month.

You need to allow 6 working days before the direct debit is due if you make a manual payment
This looks like something you’d need to call O2’s customer service team about – give them a call on 202 or 0344 809 0202
Use the specific Payment management number 0800 902 0217
The opening times are:
Monday to Friday – 8am to 8pm
Saturday – 8am to 6pm
Sunday – 9am to 6pm

the due date is more than 10 days away, I paid the bill as it said I could, the app says the bill is paid, but also says the due date on the bill breakdown, do I wait?

If it's 10 days away you will be fine and the direct debit won't take a further payment if you paid in full

Shouldn't do @1tzTJ
As you have a DD setup just leave that to take payment for your bills, no need to pay manually in future.
