Hi,
I am just about to be able to finish the first year of my 2 year refresh contract...
Next month, I will be eliible to upgrade my handset.
My question is, could I hand the phone back to o2, and just pay the airtime part of the bill, without upgrading to a new handset..?
Thanks

Once paid 24 months the handset is yours to keep or sell
if after 12 months you have to pay the remaining 12 months of the handset to get out of the contract unless on the upgrade on us tariffs but new contract and phone required

This is what I see when I look to uprgrade.
Hypothetically, if I had another phone to use, could I give my contract phone back to o2 as settlement for the device, and just pay the airtime...

You would need to hand the phone back and take out a new Refresh contract. You cannot give the phone back and carry on with the airtime without paying the £462. You would also have to switch to a new tariff.
