I understand & know that GiffGaff is an mvno & uses O2 network to run on but just asking for a friend who is on GiffGaff..

Why do I on O2 have better signal when we are in the same place & they have less signal on GiffGaff which is the same service

Signal meters are like fuel gauges in cars. ie a random indication of something somewhere near to reality. Even two indentical phones can sit side by side showing different signals.
Totally normal and nothing to be concerned about at all.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

I would imagine there are a number of factors - different makes of phone for example having different antenna setups - if you are both holding the phones then how you hold it may make a difference - I imagine the list goes on and on!

A friend of mine is on O2 too, we can stand next to each other and she tends to get fewer bars on her note 3 than I do on my Galaxy A3 - never really worried about it though, but no doubt I will now!!

Far too technical for me @Anonymous ....but would be very interested to know the answer?

As a technophobe i would jokingly say maybe O2 takes the best for themselves and leaves Giffgaff with less:smileywink:

True - Different hardware could report the signal strength differently to the software.

It may be you are on different masts even - one step to the left and you switch masts!
