O2 DC-HSPA (42.2mbps) SO SLOW

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi all

I'm sure this questions been asked so many times and is still being asked.

Why is it that O2 has never been able to give me above 5.7mbps download on HSPA+/DC-HSPA Connections across the UK and at home I can rarely acheive above 4mbps.

I Live in the B38 area of Birmingham and get a Full DC-HSPA reception from a mast close by on Green Lane (Tower Block)

Theorectically I should be able to acheive very high 4G like speeds on DC-HSPA as its rate 42.2mbps but I find I can only acheive 3-4mbps download and 2 - 2.2mbps where 3 can give me 10mbps download and around 2-3mbps upload on low signal.

I'm sick of the poor data network!!

That's normal for 3g in a built up area, hence the 4g roll out which improves speeds dramatically.
7.5mbps isn't slow......
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Compared to 3 it is. I was doing some speed tests in Manchester the other week and the results on my iPad on 3G on 3 wasn't all that much slower than the results on my iPhone on O2 4G

I've seen 18+ on Three but it does depend on how many are using the cell at the time - It drops to 0.5 in Liverpool city centre....

Leave then, no one is forcing you to be an O2 customer.

The 7.5mbps speed test in my signature was a 4G one I did when I upgraded, and i would love to leave but a case of not having £3-400 to pay o2 for nothing.

Be grateful my friend. Where I live I get a whoppingly fast 2g Internet and 2g calls and texts service.

If I am outdoors and not in range of my home wifi (where I get 7.25mb download and 0.35mb upload) then all I get whenever I use my o2 Samsung Galaxy S4 is "the page cannot be displayed" or "the proxy server cannot connect to the internet".

In today's mobile world 7.5mb is a great speed. What are you not able to achieve using it or is it just a gripe about speed and nothing to do with whether you can do everything you want on it?

I would love fibre at home (coming in June) but I am happy with what I have as I never get buffering and I can do everything I want to on it.

You also mention you tested when you upgraded (your phone I presume). Can I please ask did you alsochange your tariff to include 4g access?

If not then your test would have been on 3g and not 4g.

I think you'll find, while we are still under contract, O2 are forcing us to be customers.
