Moving to Australia for 3 years, how to keep my UK phone number?

Hi everyone, I searched a lot but couldn't find any answer for this

In January 2024 I am moving to Australia to study. I don't plan on returning to the UK during those 3 years. I would like to keep my UK number (if possible) as I have had it for many years and I have heard it can be a pain changing numbers with 2 factor authentication and things like that. Any advice please

Probably best getting a PAYG SIM. Not so many choices these days and you have to be aware of the top up / usage requirements.

A friend went abroad for 2 years and used the 1p mobile £30 a year deal. Obviously had to top up away but at least all of his credit was available on return to the UK
