Internet blocked, very little warning, have 'Unlimited Data' bolt-on

Hi,

I'm about to go on holiday for two weeks abroad so thought it best to download all the app updates I've been putting off and download a few freebies to keep me entertained.

While do so this morning, I got a txt from O2 saying I'm using a lot of data.  I ignored the txt because I have the  'Unlimited Data' bolt-on.  But they've cut off my internet!  Crazy

Thank you O2 for this wonderful Christmas present, no internet.  Thankfully I'll not be needing internet while abroad but it would be handy to have some internet access (espically for satnav while in still the UK).

I tried phoning O2 on every number I could find but couldn't get passed the robots.  So I tried the online chat and after about 30mins with someone called Tush suggesting all manor for basic tests, it was clear we were going no where and Tush said to try again later!    Crazy

Anyone got any ideas (other than look for a different provider)?

Thanks,

M.

Unfortunately that is the case... there's a fair usage policy, and it's 4gb. As for data bolt ons they r not available for this tariff. In all fairness the tariff is really expensive compared to the new ones...so chances are you will get a lot more for your money if u change your tariff. Hope this helps! I

Hi

Unless your on the legacy tariff (which is now limited too )O2 data is not unlimited.

On a contract it stops after you've used up your allowance and at that point can use wifi until your next anniversary date or pay to add a bolt on.

We've heard that the old legacy tariffs are now capped at 4GB.....
It's very poor if this is the case and the only thing I can suggest is that you complain, although it won't get an instant response, unfortunately http://www.o2.co.uk/how-to-complain

If you have a legacy tariff with Unlimited data you should not need to be adding any bolt ons for data at all.......

So it would seem I'm paying £5.11 for a 4GB limit. It would have been nice to be told this by O2 and why was Tush on the chat insistent the problem was with my phone?!

I am struggling to understand the comment "I've tried to contact o2 on every number I could find. ....." as the number is 202 and then you select the option you need.

As for data use, whilst it doesn't help the OP right now I would always advise doing as much of the bigger stuff like updating apps be done via wifi to save your data allowance (I recognise the OP thought they had unlimited data which has since been capped - surely o2 would have communicated this? ).

But for the future, use wifi where you can!

You don't need internet access to use Sat Nav in the UK. If you have an Android phone you can download these apps over WiFi. They just need a GPS signal to work:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator&hl=en

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.here.app.maps&hl=en

I believe the Nokia Here app is also available for iPhones.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2
