Help porting sim!

The 'keep your sim form' didn't work so I submitted a PAC request via live chat. I received confirmation of the port-in request by email. I wanted to speak to an adviser about this but after 20 minutes on the phone I got cut off. 

 

How long after I get the port-in email, should I expect the first of the two text messages. Secondly, will the texts come to my old number or my new temporary number. I'm currently using my old existing sim/number. 

 

I was also slightly worried by the fact the guy from sales said that the port won't begin if I haven't yet put the new sim into my phone. Surely this is not correct, as had I done this at checkout, I wouldn't have been able to do this in advance!?

No need to put the new sim in the phone until the day of the port

If you don't get the text in the next 24 hours your best option is to call

Thank you so much - the guy tried to tell me the new sim doesn't activate (and thus the port won't start) until it is put in a phone but I was lead to believe that all pay monthly sims arrive already activated?

Hi again @jonsie , CS Live chat confirmed that the text has been sent from there end, but I still haven't received it. Do I need to chase them again if it doesn't arrive or is this confirmation enough? Thanks!

That is confirmation enough

Just put the new sim in at 6pm and you may have to reboot a couple of times

You can tell when the port is taking place when the old sim stops working

@jonsie I've got the text!

One last thing - sorry! does the new O2 sim need to be in the phone tomorrow in order for the port to happen, or can I just wait for my current sim to lose signal before popping it in ?

The new sim does not need to be in the phone for the port to happen @hopeleanne23, just wait til the old one loses signal.

My phone turned to 'no service' this morning so I assume the transfer is in process. However, I am out the house until 5 now and can't put my new sim in until then. Will this cause any issues or delays to the porting process, or should my old number be up and running on my new sim when I get home?

It won't cause any issues. Just pop the new sim in and reboot the Phone
