Do new sims get sent out when upgrading to a sim only tariff?

I'm considering upgrading next month and need a new sim. I've seen sim only tarriff's that suit me but I would need a nano sim and i'm currently using a....I think micro. If I upgrade to a sim only tarriff, would they send me a new sim even though i'm not ordering a new phone? If not - is there a way to buy a nano sim and keep my number?

Apologies if this question is silly. I'm new to this and in the past my upgrades have included a phone so it's never been something I had to think about.

They wouldn't routinely send a new sim in that scenario but you could request one for free from customer services or pop into your local O2 shop, again it's free.

If you get a blank sim from customer services you can also do it yourself here http://swapmysim.o2.co.uk/

Just make sure you get a pay monthly sim, not one for PAYG, as they are different.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Check your present sim, it may be a 3 in 1 sim originally and you can press the nano sim out. Worth checking.
