Do I need to give a months notice to change provider if my contract is ended

In a word, no @Tony_h 

Depending on how you pay your bill you might need to contact customer services once the bill is generated to pay as your access to your My o2 will be shut.

If you pay by direct debit though just wait and leave the DD in place.
