Hi there

We live on Dartmoor and currently use Giffgaff 4g to get our internet. We have no home telephone line so we use a giff gaff sim in a dlink 953 router which we then can all hoik into. We use netflix and a few tablets but not at the same time!

However giffgaff isn't very fast. The signal keeps dropping out. We had Tesco before and that was better but I've noticed that o2 is pretty much the same price as tesco and only a few quid more than giffgaff.

I'm looking at the o2 site looking for sim only deals.

However I'm a bit confused.

It is asking if I'm using a phone/tablet/mobile broadband.    So it's the latter ... but why is more data available on the phone data price.  I can get 150gig a month on phone data but only 100gig a month on tablet/mobile broadband.

We intend to whack the sim card in the router.

Data is data surely. Why would I choose mobile broadband which offers 50gig less for same price?

Data is data surely or is there a faster speed on the mobile broadband option?

With giffgaff we are getting 1.76mbps download and 0.33mbps upload speed.

Which might explain our issue with giffgaff.

Thanks

Phil

@Dartmoorcf

O2 will force you to use a data sim in a router.

If you try to use a phone sim / tariff you will be blocked.

It's O2's business model unfortunately and that's just how it is.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Cheers matey.

I just tried to order a data sim and failed the credit check! Ha ha.

Not sure why. It is excellent according to my bank.

I guess it's back to Tesco mobile
