Want to know how, when upgrading my phone £150 cashback was mentioned. What does this mean?

It means you'll be given back £150.

This could be a one off payment to you or a discount on your bill.

You might have to send in bills somewhere at certain intervals, so check carefully the terms of your offer.

If this was an offer made from someone calling purporting to be from O2 or an independent retailer, be very careful.
