Can't send texts - help!

Help please!
I can't send texts from my phone, I have a nokia E65.
It started a week ago, all of a sudden, my messages I try to send go straight into my outbox for resending, then after a while it comes up with " failed, memory too full, close some applications & try again".
Well, that's wrong for starters coz I have a 2gb memory card, I checked the memory & there is 1874MB free, I'm only using 72MB, so it can't be the memory.
I checked the message centre number & it's the right one, I tried taking my sim card out & cleaning it - nothing. I tried resetting the network - nothing.
I can receive messages, make & receive calls - no problem.
It's just sending texts that I can't do, it's so frustrating!!!
Is it worth taking my phone to a shop to see if they can help?
Any advice appreciated.

This seems to be a common fault on the recent generation of Nokia phones.
A master reset of the phone using the process below usually solves the problem;

1. Performing a master reset will wipe all of the your personal information from the device so you should do a back up or copy out any information you wish to save before continuing with this process. You may be able to do this on the memory card or your PC.

2. Remove the memory card. From the phone pad, enter *#7370#

3. The phone will ask for the ‘Lock Code’ which will be 12345 (unless you have changed it).

4. Your phone will be taken back to factory restored condition and then you will need to enter the country, date, time etc. as you did when they first switched on the device.

Reset the phone, didn't wipe my photos or videos which I'm happy about but SMS is working now so I'm dead happy. Thanks for the instructions/link stevyjones, much appreciated and a big big help.

Right, doing a master reset didn't solve the issue & I didn't go to a repair shop in the end, so I'm still stuck.
Anyone got any other idea's?
Or do I resign myself to buying a new phone?

What's the message centre number?

it's the right one for pay & go, +447802092035.
Already checked this with O2.

Can you try the sim in another handset to see if the sim is ok?

Just a thought....try deleting all sent messages.
Is your sim card a 3G (3G would be included in the numbers on the back of the sim card)

Checked my sim and it doesn't mention 3G anywhere - is this the issue?
My sim is actually quite old, I've had it for about 3 years maybe.

Also, I've just noticed on my phone, when I switched it back on, in the top left corner where the network signal strength is displayed, it had a symbol which said 3G with a slash through it, then the normal signal came back.

Do I need a new sim ?
