4G calling vs VoLTE

I have a dual SIM phone with EE and O2.

EE has "Network mode EE LTE/3G/2G" and "VOLTE calls EE Use LTE data networks for calls whenever possible."

O2 has "Network mode 02 4G/3G/2G" and "4G calling 02 Enable enhanced communication using 4G data."

What's the difference? Is there any difference in technology or is it just semantics?

VoLTE and 4G Calling are one and the same thing. Although VoLTE is perhaps a better definition as the system works on 5G too.

But at the end of the day no difference

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

Thank you.

So the "VoLTE2" icon on EE is just them being flashy! Somehow my phone knows that the different operators call the same technology different things and displays accordingly.

What appears on the phone is dependent on the SIM.

EE is more informative that most networks!

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.
