is there anyway to text from the usa to the uk for free without any additional costs?

or is there any third party android apps that would allow me to do this?

BBM or Facebook messenger.

Viber, Google hangouts etc.

Loads of messaging apps on Play.

@b4u2 Whichever third party app you choose, whoever you're texting would have to have the same app. Why did you say not WhatsApp? It's by far the best, in my opinion.
