Hi looking for some info on pay as you go top ups.  My uncle who still insists on getting a top up from his local shop... he is currently in hospital and i have had to top up his phone £30 in the last 2.5 weeks, he is only using the phone to send messages, the data/wifi is not connected.  Surely his phone is using way too much money for just messages? any help gratefully received.

Your uncle is on a Big Bundle which he doesn't need. He should be on a Classic tariff which O2 no longer provide. However he can try a tesco or giffgaff sim. They both do Classic and are on the O2 Network.

He will be far better with a Classic tariff. You only pay for what you use.

Best of luck and Welcome to the forum. 😊

If he is on a bundle, the allowances are valid for 30 days and all texts will be free as they come from his allowances, so it appears he may already be on a classic tariff but maybe his data is still turned on in the phone settings and is using his credit.

There's no other explanation to you having to top up within a 30 day period.

Top up would be valid for 30 days if on a bundle.

£30 in 2.5 weeks indicates use from credit.
