My gate entry system is on 2G and stopped working on 4th June. It was sold to me in March 2018, so it appears I was sold a near obsolete system that I am now told needs upgrading to 4G to get it to work again, at a cost of £400-500. Has anyone had a similar experience?

@MES Are you sure the system only works on 2G? Have you tried a 3G or 4G sim with it? If it only works on 2G, then your issue is with whoever sold you the system.

@MES Hi, It must be an old design to only work with 2G only, 2G was not going to last long - even in 2018.

I would get back on to the person who sold it to you.

2G will be around for a long while yet as LPWAN (Low Powered Wide Area Networks) IOT (Internet of Things) devices such as smart meters use it to send data.

I am surprised a gate entry system in 2018 is 2G only, Is it a PAYG sim or a Pay Monthly sim card?

But it is one for the supplier, and nothing to do with o2.

@MES

O2 recently made some system changes at the beginning of April which rendered some older sim cards useless.

It may be worth you trying a new sim first before paying out for a new system.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)
