Did you buy the phone over the internet? If so, then you have 7 days "cooling off" *FROM WHEN YOU RECEIVE IT* under Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000.

If the iPhone is faulty or develops a fault in the first couple of months, then you have the right to return it for a refund and cancellation of contract under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended). You shouldn't be charged a restocking fee in this situation as the contract was breached once the item became faulty.

If you're past the 7 days and the phone isn't faulty, you have the option to change the tariff after 9 months (one change per month).

Apart from that, expect to pay £+++ to break out of your contract.
