Voicemail Notifications

I don't get any notification when I have a new voicemail message. I have been to the voicemail settings menu, and there is no option to turn on or change the notification settings. I am a pay as you go customer on an iphone 3g, but still never had these options with different mobiles.
Can anyone help me turn on the notifications?

New message notification

There are three ways we can let you know when you receive a new message:

we can send you a text message
we can call you
we can display the on-screen Voicemail 901 sysmbol () on your phone
It's up to you to choose the notification you prefer. And you change it any time by dialling 901, pressing * for greetings and a mailbox settings, followed by 4 and following the prompts.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply.
After following your instructions, pressing * then 4, the only options I am given are: press 3 to cancel the menu played at the end of each message; 4 for the security settings menu; or * to return to the greetings and mailbox settings menu. There is no option for me change the notifications. Is there anything else i can try?

Hey Johneh,

Have you had any luck geting this sorted?...

I am kind of in the same boat, in that i have no option to change the way i am notified anymore. I used to have the option there, and i used to receive the on screen logo... But now, all of a sudden i get a text, and the options have vanished for me to change it back!

I'm on my third call to o2 now... They don't seem to understand, and keep making out like its me being a dumbass!

Hey. Its good to know I'm not the only one in this situation.
Not got it sorted yet. I've phoned the helpline twice.
The first time, I was told to phone 901, and press * then 4, and 1 or 2 for notification options, which is what we're looking for, but the option isnt given when I try it.
The second time, I was told to phone 1710. I've done this, but all it has done is turn on the Call Alert feature, which is supposed to text me everytime I have a missed call, and so far doesnt seem to work either, and its turned off voicemail (doesnt give a caller the chance to leave a message).
I have since went back to the voicemail options, with voicemail deactive and active, and still no option to do with notifications.
I might try the helpline again tomorrow. Dont think I can survive any more of their on-hold music for today.
Good luck finding an answer

Finally got it sorted!... I gave them one more call today, and after going through it all with the bloke, he put me on hold. When he came back he said he had spoken to someone in the "Network Services Team" who deal with voicemail. He said that they had changed something their end, and it should work now.
And it did. Option 1 to change notification method is back.
So maybe try customer services again and tell them to do as above!
