Hello all,

I am in the very early stages of considering investing in a buisness to sell pet suplies and have a groomers included. There is an increasing demand for this and there is a lack of them in this specifc area. I know this will be a long process but can anyone suggest anywhere where I can learn the basics?

A lot of good advice here : https://www.gov.uk/starting-up-a-business/start-with-an-idea

As with any venture it helps by talking to someone already owning their own business if you know anyone.

As far as pet supplies themselves go, I think you're up against a pretty saturated market:

My initial instinct was that people who do pet grooming probably advertise on notice boards within pet supply stores. I think the market for something like you're suggesting will be very competitive.

We have a good pet suppliers in my home town The one thing I notice is they stock a large amount of medications for all small animals. Most of these medicines are stored in glass locked cabinets. The staff give a great deal of advice.... so you need to consider training needs.

On a personal note I prefer to shop there as they carry a large supply with a lot of choice...

What made you want to give this a go @L_W_Ward if I may ask?

I wish i could offer some advice, but unfortunately I am not hugely knowledgeable with grooming!

hi Liam

I get my cat's supplies on line, via Ebay, the prices are competitive, there's no p+p & it gets delivered straight to my door (I don't have a car) ..... perhaps you could consider an online side to your prospective new business

It's something I've been thinking off for a while as I know a bit about the market. As for the grooming its easy to get the space and pay a specialist groomer to work for you.

I've considered the online side and may go with that for a year or so first. Less overheads.
