the Trimphone ... my mum & dad had one in two-tone teal colour
I remember the bakelite heavy cloth plaited cord round-dial phone ... only 1 phone 'on our street' & a shoe polish rep had it ... son of family was my 1st ever friend, we are in touch now, got together over Friends Re-united

I can assure you it took a very long time. You had to wait till the first 9 returned to 'base' before you dialled the second 9. (If you attempted before that time you ended up dialling 8). It was an amazing invention when push button landline phones came onto the market...
