I've an existing SIM only contract, however there is a good offer here:

https://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/handset/samsung/galaxy-s21-plus-5g

For a Samsung 21 on contract on o2 £29 per month with £79.99 upfront for the handset.

Can I order this and effectively "cancel" my old contract and move my existing number to the new contract?

@binkybong You would have to pay what remains on your existing contract in order to do what you want to do.

You can also speak to O2 via social media:

Hi @binkybong

Yes you can, although you will need to call O2 to migrate your number to the new account. That will effectively cancel your old sim only contract.

You should contact the sales team as they can help with that – message them on Social Media if that works best for you -on Facebook (https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter ( https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram (https://o2uk.co/O2CIG)

Or you can call them on 0800 081 0255

Thanks all - I've actually been in touch with O2 customer services. They said I have 2 options:

1) Just go ahead and make the order, however - I'll end up with 2x O2 contracts which is not ideal

2) Wait until nearly the end of February before I can have an option to "upgrade" to a handset - again not ideal either

So I'm stuck between having to foot the bill for 2x contracts or now that I'm "tied in" to the SIM only contract, having to wait until Feb for the option to "upgrade" but it might not be an offer that could compete with the one from Mobile Phones Direct. Starting to regret moving over now - I seem to be locked in now with no options to get a new phone if I want to stay with O2

When you are logged into your account, do you get an option to upgrade to a new sim only deal @binkybong ?

Maybe a 30 day sim, so you would not have to pay a large fee to finish the deal when you move your number to another deal?

Please note, this is not customer services and we cannot access your account. Do not publish personal details (email, phone number, bank account).

When I select upgrade options I get this:

"Sorry, you can only change your tariff once every 30 days. You'll be able to change it again on 20/12/2021"

@binkybong

You've already confirmed with O2 that you can't upgrade until February.....

If you want the new contract now, you'll need to pay off your current device plan, so weigh up if you will be better off in the long term by doing so or not.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
