I received today 15 April 2024, at 15:45, a phone call on my mobile claiming to be from O2, and wanting me to change my password, in order to apply a discount on my monthly bill. I refused & hung up. Can O2 confirm whether this call was legit or not?

Same here, just had a call from 02078713855. Actually very polite and professional Indian call centre operative who didn't even lose it when I said they were trying to scam me, just politely said if I don't want the discount then it's up to me and ended the call.

At least I wasted lots of their time pretending to go along with it and not answering their requests.

Hopefully the number will be shut down.

They wanted my email address and requested verification codes text to me, that turned out to be my email provider so I guess trying to login as me. Then they send a password reset email from 02 and asked that I click on the link and enter 'promotion2024' to get a discount. This would have reset my password to this so they could do bad stuff.

Good job you were on the ball @waldopepper. 👍

No matter how polite they are, their aim is to scam you by taking over your account!

Well done you.

Yeh I just mean they were so polite and professional, this must fool some people.

They actually called back, well their 'supervisor' and still tried to push the scam. I kept asking him if he was proud of what he did for a living, does he tell his family that he steals from people and why doesn't he just get an honest job, he didn't know what to say!

Well this is weird, the same number called several times so I finally answered. It was the same guy who called yesterday. He said I had taught him a lesson yesterday and made him think about what he was doing. He explained that he didn't have any money and this was the only job he could get. He kept pausing not knowing what to say but he sounded genuinely sorry.

He didn't try to scam me again, but just wanted me to know he was thinking about what I said. wtf?
