Coverage maps are only guides and not an exact science
The advice is to always try networks on PAYG before committing to a contract.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Having a look on OpenSignal shows a mixed bag of signal reports for your street in St Helens.

Have you tried your sim card in a different handset? Have you tried TuGo ?

As @MI5 said alway best to test signal with a PAYG sim, before committing as not everywhere has a mobile signal even these days

Indoor coverage is never guaranteed as there are so many factors involved, such as thickness in wall, as Radio Waves will only penetrate so far.

A phone wont always lock onto the nearest mast, it will hope between masts in an area, trying to find the least contention to allow you to use features.
- Xperia 1V - o2 and Spusu
- Pixel 8 Pro - o2 and Vodafone UK

@paddyguy Ofcom do not deal with individual complaints of this nature, so save yourself some time and try a different network, as advised.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2
