Hi, went to apply for a mortgage, done a credit check before going through a lengthy process, only to my shock found an outstanding balance of £8 on my account from 2009, no idea what or how, anyone any idea how to pay/clear this debt. I didnt receive any warnings, letters, emails stating i had this debt on my account and now i have a black mark against my credit! Absolutely disgusted, especially as its only £8!

I should add that if you choose option 1 to place a Notice of Correction then you need to do this with EACH of the Credit Reference Agencies. It is free to do and they have 28 days to update your file once you have sent in your info.

If you want to see a copy of your credit file you can do so by writing to Experian (the biggest uk one) and five your full name, address (including previous addresses if you have moved in the last 3 years), your date of birth. It will cost you the princely sum of £2 which is a statutory fee. You can do the same with the other credit reference agencies but from my experience Experian will most likely give you the info you need.

Might be worth a look.

Hi Piperdog - You again here assert that O2 state that they send letters and emails to chase a debt.

Have you got any direct evidence of this from O2 as the Ombudsman are saying it is not in their t's and c's and in my case they admit to have not sent any chasing emails or letters at all - but it has made no difference at all regarding their referral to a debt collection agency?
