I am usually very cautious when it comes to cold calling, but I fell for the aforementioned scam.

I would say it was very sophisticated. The woman calmly explained I had been selected for a discount, she had ALL my details, I mean everything, from how many lines I have, my address, my bank details, EVERYTHING! I had no reason to doubt she was not from o2 because she had all my details.

it didn’t even registered as alarming when she asked me for my card details, to verify my address!

I received different texts and emails whilst on the phone to her confirming what she was saying. One email was legit, as she changed my o2 password whilst on the call. The other email was a dodgy looking o2 promotion email, with the supposed details of my discount.

she said her colleague will call me next and stressed it is very important I answer the call.

By this time, I was not happy with what had happened and I went into my nearest o2 shop, in which they confirmed it was a scam. The o2 staff helped me gain access back to my account, as they had changed my email address and password and luckily we stopped them in their tracks before they could do some major damage.

it was very scary! Please be cautious everyone!

A very close shave, @JJ_x 🥵

Just to be safe, as you verified your credit card address with this scam caller, please do check with your card and bank account provider that all is as it should be. And thanks for writing up your experience, most timely!

Exact same thing happened to me today. 50 to 40% of my bill for six months and gifted a new iPhone. Free of charge coming tomorrow. I’ve had Texts emails even on my O2 account. I’ve had notifications saying that my new phone will be delivered tomorrow with a new phone number. I have contacted O2 myself and they said it’s fraud but I am also still receiving taxes stating my new phone is coming tomorrow which I didn’t ask for. And I’ve ended up having to change all my security on my account. I am so extremely worried and concerned about this. Can someone help

@Dunks52@JanetClark

If you’ve been the victim of a fraud – whether it’s because you’ve given details to someone over the phone, or clicked on a link in a suspicious text or email there are things you can do:
Contact your bank if you think you may have given out financial information. They can help protect your account and stop transactions.
Change your account and online account passwords. Not just your O2 account. All of them.
Forward fraudulent texts to O2 for free on 7726.
Contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
Call your Virgin Media or O2 customer services number if you think somebody’s taken out a contract using your details.
Virgin Media customers can phone 150 from their landline or 0345 454 1111 from any other phone.
O2 customers can call 202 from their O2 phone or 0344 809 0202 from any other phone.

You can block the number that called you, or any number you think may be suspicious.

I just had the same, very authentic sounding call with this proposition. They sent reset links and asked me to read back the one-time authentication SMS - which is where I twigged this is a fraud and ended the call.
A very sophisticated crowd, hope they're found and shut down.

@Marmite1- well done for recognising the fraud and not falling for it !

@JJ_x @Dunks52 @JanetClark - if any handsets or accessories do turn up, please be extremely careful as to what you do with them ; you certainly do not want to hand them over to the scammers.

Well, this crowd is nothing if not persistent! I had another call from a spoofed UK number, saying they sent me an e-mail with a link to partake of an offer - being wise to this now I checked the e-mail domain "o2customerservices.com" - sure enough it's not o2 - but below are the "whois" owner details:

Report it to godaddy for removal.
