Sim Card Holes

What's the term for the plastic holes that once held a 4 in 1 SIM? Ie the things shaped like a cc sim, a standard SIM, or a micro SIM but with a nano, micro or standard shapped hole roughly where the SIM chip should be?

They arent really adaptors cos the nano sim falls out easily but they are usable as adaptors. I think they deserve a name cos they are seriously useful as adaptors.

Always called them a sim carrier but thought they are 3 in 1

The credit card sized sim carrier card was the original SIM card size and fits really old phones like the Motorola Startac and Microtac. Though I'm not sure if the nano sized chip will work - i think it will, cos when I tried an Asda Mobile payg complete card on on my locked to 'Orange' Startac it asked for the unlock code. So must have reccognised it as a SIM. I then tried a shop bought adaptor and adapted an EE nano up to standard  with it and stuck that onto the cc sized sim carrier I got the same results. 

The chip size on the older cc sizeds + standard sim only was roughly the size of the complete micro SIM today. Those could only fit CC sized sim holders (almost as big as the phone itself ) or standard sized sim holders.

O2 don't send their sims in that cc sized carrier anymore.
As Adam says, they are 3 in 1 now.
I still have some of the old cc size carriers to use in my vintage phones.

😖😔😢 it's the end of an era!! Happily most of the other carriers do still do 4 in 1's. 😂

Next you'll be telling me that the nano is going to be replaced by some kind of eSim that's not removable but flashable via software? Like the original carphone, or briefcase sized phones had...

Not quite like the old analogue systems and glad to see the back of those when digital was introduced.

I don't remember the analog ones very well, my boss lent me his analog Microtac when I needed it in the early nineties. Then changed company and nothing for 5 years bar a pager. Then changed jobs and got an Alcatel HC 800 as my work phone in 1998 or 99, then a One Touch Pro . Then moved again and got a Nokia 6230 for work, and everything went crazy, so main phones I had were the first Moto iTunes phone, the Orange SPV, Nokia Lipstick phone (my phone but used by another) , Nokia 8800 Sirocco, Palm Pré, HP Pre3 (HP canned the OS the day after the Pre3 was released here, so they were hen's teeth ) HTC one mini, Xperia z5 compact, P20 pro.

I also bought some old models like the Startac, Microtac and Sony w995 to tinker and as collectables. Sold most of the main phone on ebay. The only one I really wish I'd kept was the 8800. Had many payg  cheapies too.

How did one go about provisioning the analogue ones then @MI5?

You couldn't provision them, the network had to supply a replacement.
