Why would my O2 Joggler have an IMEI number on it?

I'm thinking SIM card anyone? grin grin grin

I can understand MAC address, and a Model number, which is really funny as "A02JOGON"

The Joggler gets a mobile phone number allocated (so that it can send/recieve SMS).
It is not native SMS on the device - it is going into the O2 network over your broadband connection and then being translated to real SMS somewhere in the O2 network.
My guess is that O2 choosing to do it that way meant that an IMEI number was also needed.

Have a look here: http://www.openpeak.com/

The Joggler is a custom version of the Openframe, that's why it has an IMEI

They have a version that can act as a DECT base station (with matching handsets) and they have VOIP - but I don't think that Openpeak has a device that takes a SIM.
So - I don't think they require an IMEI
The Verizon Hub (also Openpeak) doesn't have one that I could see ...

It can act as a bridge between, amongst others, the mobile network and DECT (this is very popular in the US as many outlying properties have poor or no landlines) and therefore requires an IMEI.

Interesting ... do you know which protocols/standards it uses to achieve that?

The Joggler 'IMEI' starts 931620 - what do the USA Openpeak models start with?
