Hi

Did you turn.off mobile data in its settings along with the roaming toggle.in its settings.

O2 cs can help on 202 contract or 4445 Payg if.you feel it's not right.

To add : when the iphone screen goes to sleep it auto.switches from WiFi back to network connection for data which is why I asked If you turned off mobile data.

May I ask when you actually turned Mobile Data off? Was it before you left the UK...or when you landed in Mexico?

Just to add...I am not sure why Apple told you this cannot happen? If mobile data was on for any time...it certainly can and will happen. Everything that needs updating will take that opportunity to jump in and update itself....

You need to switch off mobile/cellular data before you leavery the uk. Just switching on when you get there will use data to update  at £6/my.

Speak to customer service as Apple cannot help with charges.

If, as you say, you have turned off both before you left UK it cannot happen.
I assume one or the other is still turned on though so double check.
There was also an issue with iPhones (supposed to be fixed though now) that data could be leaked when you receive a text message......
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:

Though Apple says it can't happen. Not true!

Problem is...the OP didnt actually say when they turned off mobile data. One of the first questions I asked. Sadly they have not been back to clarify slight_frown
