The policy relates to the airtime agreement as well so o2 would know that the sim that is paying the insurance was not in the phone at the time of loss / damage. @MI5I wonder of this is dependent on who you are insured with? My policy required me to give the mobile phone number, IMEI, make and model of the handset(s) insured. That being the case then probably the op should call their insurance just to inform them of the number change? .....

Yes definitely. I was under the impression that if the sim supplied with the phone wasn't being used in the phone at the time of any subsequent claim then you weren't covered. You do need to contact them.
