Unlocking (again)

I am trying to unlock my iphone 5s. I have gone through the process, received the email, ordered a free EE sim, put it in the phone, connected to itunes and... nothing.

 

The email says itunes will tell me when the phone has unlocked. I didn't see a pop up and I don't see anywhere in itunes with the info. 

 

How do I check whether the phone is unlocked please?

When you put the EE SIM in, did it accept it and give you a signal with EE in the top left of the screen?

Order a free sim onlin from EE, Three or Vodafone. You don't have to top up, just check the phone accepts the sim.
