No service after upgrade & sim not provisioned

I've been on hold & been cut off tonight for 3 hours to try to get some help.  I've upgraded my technophobic husbands Iphone 4S to a Iphone SE yesterday, It's all set up & everything saved to it from the last icloud back up.  But it looks like i should have carried out a sim swap as they are trying to text me a code to enter, but the old sim card is no longer working  I have unlocked the old phone as my daughter is having it.

 

Any ideas of what I need to do to get the Network to operate on the phone as he will have to go to work with no phone tomorrow which isn't ideal after his surgery yesterday.

 

Any help would really be appreciated

Be aware of long waits due to call centre issues though.
